Bulk Diesel Storage Tank – Oil Analysis Results

Location: Quarrying Operation System: Kleenoil MS4 Diesel Filtration Unit (installed July 2025)

Sample History

17/07/25 – Before Kleenoil (Start Sample)

• Particle count: Too dirty to measure. Counter overloaded — extremely high contamination. • Appearance: Clear and bright, but visible metallic particles present. • Water: 56 ppm (elevated). • Metals: Iron 2, Ca 2, P 2, Zn 4. • Sulphur: 64 ppm. • Bacteria/Fungus: Negative. • Interpretation: Fuel appeared clear but was heavily contaminated with fine solids and water. This condition risks injector wear, microbial growth, and poor combustion efficiency.

24/07/25 – After 7 Days with Kleenoil MS4 System

Particle count: o

14 µm: 225/ml 6 µm: 1,651/ml 4 µm: 4,774/ml

o

o

o ISO Code: 19/18/15 (measurable and much cleaner than “too dirty to count”) • Appearance: Clear and bright, no visible debris. • Water: 17 ppm (↓ from 56). • Metals/Chemistry: All 0 (clean fuel). • Sulphur: 11 ppm (↓ from 64). • Interpretation: Major improvement. Water and solids significantly reduced, fuel chemistry stabilised.

Sulphur Context

• The Kleenoil MS4 system does not remove sulphur from the fuel itself. • The reduction (64 → 11 ppm) is because much of the sulphur was bound in sludge/particulates that were physically removed from the tank during filtration. • Importantly, a desirable sulphur level is around 11 – 15 ppm: o This maintains fuel lubricity for pumps and injectors. o It avoids excessive sulphur that could cause emissions issues. • The current result of 11 ppm is ideal, ensuring the diesel remains both protective and compliant.

Benefits to the Quarry Operation

• Protects injection equipment — ISO counts reduced to safe levels, extending injector and pump life. • Moisture controlled — water reduced to 17 ppm, minimising corrosion and microbial growth risk. • Fuel stability — sulphur level now at the ideal 11 ppm range, ensuring lubricity without emissions penalties. • Operational reliability — cleaner diesel prevents unplanned downtime from blocked filters or injection failures.

Next Steps

• Awaiting the next sample — expected to show further improvement in particle counts as the MS4 system continues to polish the fuel. • ISO is expected to trend towards 17/15/12 or better, providing world-class diesel cleanliness. • Regular monitoring will confirm long-term stability and identify any future contamination early.

Conclusion: Within one week, the Kleenoil MS4 system has transformed fuel quality: from too dirty to count to ISO 19/18/15, water reduced by 70%, and sulphur stabilised at the ideal 11 ppm level for lubricity and emissions. This ensures reliable, efficient fuel supply and protects critical quarrying equipment.

• First sample: dangerously dirty — unacceptable for modern diesel engines. • Second sample: transformed by the Kleenoil MS8 to near-target ISO and drier fuel. • Third sample: shows some older contamination being drawn up as fuel level fell — not a step back, but evidence that permanent on-site filtration would continue improving the tank until even bottom fuel is clean.

ADDITIONAL THIRD SAMPLING

Overall Summary

First Sample — Before Cleaning (17/07/2025)

• Condition: Fuel was too dirty to provide a meaningful ISO code — extremely high contamination and visible debris. • Diagnosis: Action Required — particulate contamination far beyond acceptable levels. • Water Content: Present at elevated levels (38 ppm on similar baseline samples). • Recommendation: Required installation of offline/polishing filtration before the fuel could be reliably used

Second Sample — After Installing Kleenoil MS8 (24/07/2025)

• Condition: Massive improvement after initial filtration pass. • ISO Cleanliness: 19/18/15 — approaching acceptable target for diesel fuel used in sensitive engines. • Water Content: Dropped significantly (from ~38 ppm to ~32 ppm range in subsequent tests). • Visual Clarity: Fuel clear/bright with only trace particulate. • Interpretation: The Kleenoil MS8 effectively removed the bulk of loose contamination and water, transforming the fuel from heavily dirty to serviceable condition

Third Sample — Most Recent (01/09/2025)

• Condition: ISO Cleanliness shifted slightly to 20/18/14. • Visual: Fuel remained clear/bright with no visible particulate. • Water Content: Stable and low at 32 ppm. • Diagnosis: Action Required only because the sample still sits just above the ideal ISO target of 18/16/13; otherwise, chemistry and water remain good .The slight increase in particle count is not a failure of the filtration system. As the tank level dropped without being refilled, the sampling point reached older, settled debris and sludge closer to the bottom. This is normal in tanks that have built up contamination over time. • Settling Effect: Over years, heavier dirt and sludge accumulate at the bottom of storage tanks. When fuel levels drop and suction points move closer to this zone, more legacy contamination gets drawn into the sample. • Continuous or Permanent Filtration: If the Kleenoil MS8 system were permanently installed and allowed to circulate fuel whenever the tank is in use or between fills, it would gradually remove this deep-seated contamination. Each cycle would clean more of the legacy deposits at the base, progressively reducing particle counts even in bottom-of-tank samples. • Long-Term Result: With permanent polishing, the tank would reach stable ISO cleanliness even as it is drained, ensuring clean, dry diesel fuel for engines and eliminating the risk of unexpected filter clogging or injector damage.
